The 25th Anniversary Xbox Series X is rumored to cost as much as the PS5 Pro, and I’m not surprised in the slightest

August 21, 2026 / admin / retro news

Nostalgia always comes at a price, and in the case of the swanky translucent green 25th Anniversary Xbox Series X that was shown off at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 earlier this year, that price is apparently €899.99 / $899.99.

If you were keeping your fingers crossed that the upcoming limited edition console was going to cost the same as the $799.99 Series X, a leak shared by DealLabs is here to squander your dreams. Xbox itself has yet to officially announce how many smackaroos you’ll need to fork out for its retro-inspired hardware, but the team at DealLabs Magazine has done their “own research” and has announced it’ll launch on November 27 and cost €899.99 in France and Europe, which should approximately translate to $899.99 US dollars – an eye-watering MSRP that even matches that of the post-price-hike PS5 Pro.

As is always the case with any pricing leaks, I’d take this with a huge grain of salt. Not just because Xbox has yet to confirm anything, but because DealLabs Magazine doesn’t offer any source for its pricing revelations. However, I can entirely foresee $900 being the expectation for this limited console, particularly after the recent price hikes in the US.

Earlier this month (on August 1 2026 to be exact), the 512GB Xbox consoles received a $100 increase, while the 1TB models rose in price by $150. That meant that the disc edition 1TB Xbox Series X went from $649.99 to $799.99, and that’s the console that’s been given the translucent green makeover. As tends to be the case with these limited-edition releases, there’s likely to be an additional charge placed on top to facilitate the manufacturing of the unique 25th-anniversary-branded chassis and design, and that could very well take the total up to $899.99.

While DealLabs “exclusively” revealed their suspicions about the console’s pricing, there was no word shared about the X25 Special Edition controller, which was originally unveiled alongside the 25th Anniversary console at the very same Xbox Games Showcase 2026. The pad, which takes inspiration from the OG Xbox Duke controller, is to be packaged with every console and available to purchase separately, but no leaks on its pricing has been unearthed.

The site states that price and pre-orders for the controller will be “discussed at gamescom 2026” so it shouldn’t be long until we get an insight into its MSRP too. With the official Xbox Wireless Gaming controller retailing for $69.99, I suspect it won’t be as dramatic a difference, but we’ll have to wait until next week when Gamescom 2026 officially kicks off to be sure.

If you do want to capture some of that early Xbox nostalgia without having to wait for November, you should check out the $59.99 (Amazon) Jade 8Bitdo Ultimate 3 controller. The wireless controller is officially licensed by Xbox and is compatible with gaming PC setups and the Xbox Series X/S. Most importantly, it shares a similarly-looking transparent green chassis as the X25 Special Edition Xbox pad.

Sure, it doesn’t have those iconic old green, red, yellow, and blue ABXY buttons that harken back to the early days of Xbox. Yet if you’re handy with a screwdriver and modding, I’m sure you could find a way to circumnavigate that.
