Latest Steam lottery winner How to Fish sells 1 million copies in 2 days: “Yes, we’ll be adding more content”

August 24, 2026 / admin / retro news

Another week, another viral indie co-op game overtaking Steam – and this time, it’s a cozy (chaotic) little “physics-based fishing simulator” you can enjoy alongside pals.

As Meccha Chameleon continues to make waves with its Prop Hunt-esque mechanics and Big Walk enjoys the limelight as a more recent multiplayer puzzle delight, a new co-op gem takes center stage with its silly premise and engrossing gameplay loop: How to Fish.

If you haven’t seen its official Steam page yet, it’s designed for one to four players and is about, you guessed it, fishing. There’s a lot more to its charm, however.

Like, erm, shiny knives reminiscent of Counter-Strike 2 blades, literal guns, gambling… and trick shots? Put simply, it’s a hilariously wild bundle of very many things, but a very good one at that.

“Fish fish, kill fish, sell fish,” as developer Dazed Games describes it – and then gear up with armor and weapons, because who doesn’t do so while fishing? And, much to my Animal Crossing-loving delight, “Try to collect the rare variant of all the different fish.”

How to Fish already boasts “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews, so I’m clearly not the only one won over by its chaos.

There’s also the fact that, you know, it’s reached over a million sales in two days, as Dazed Games reveals in a new announcement. The studio exclaims, “WE HIT 1 MILLION FISHERMEN! THANK YOU ALL!”

The dev isn’t finished with the viral new hit, either. “Yes, we’ll be adding more content!” Or finished fixing it, for that matter. “Yes, we’ll be fixing bugs!”

Comments show grateful fans, with some even dubbing How to Fish the “game of the year.” Others make requests for what they’d like to see out of Dazed Games’ teased future content, from new islands to more bosses and variants of fish – and, honestly, something tells me we’ll see those things come to fruition, as it’s evident the dev is only getting started here.

Keep your eye on the Steam page for updates – or, should you not have How to Fish yet, grab it on sale for $4.95 while its introductory offer of 38% off lasts.

Looking to support some more smaller developers? Here’s a roundup of the best upcoming indie games arriving this year and beyond to wishlist now.
