Limited Run Games has announced a physical reissue of a cult PlayStation 1 classic, giving collectors another chance to own a boxed copy of a game that’s become increasingly expensive on the secondhand market. The release will include the original game on disc, packaged with a full-color booklet and reversible cover art.
Why this one matters
The PS1 original has been a fixture on “most expensive retro games” lists for years, with complete copies commanding triple-digit prices. It’s exactly the kind of game physical reissues exist for: beloved by those who played it, priced out of reach for everyone else, and unlikely to get a modern remaster.
For the uninitiated, the game is a genre-blending oddity from the PS1’s experimental era โ the kind of creative risk that the industry’s biggest budgets rarely take anymore. Its cult following has only grown as retro YouTube and streaming have introduced it to players who missed it the first time around.
What’s in the package
Beyond the game disc itself, the reissue includes a newly produced manual in the style of the original release โ a nice touch, given how many of us have feelings about game manuals โ plus reversible cover art featuring the original box design. A collector’s edition with additional extras is also planned for those who want the full treatment.
Importantly, the reissue is a faithful reproduction rather than a remake: the same game, the same quirks, the same late-’90s charm, running on original hardware or compatible systems. No “improvements,” no rebalancing โ preservation, not revision.
Part of a bigger trend
Physical reissues of retro games have quietly become one of the healthiest corners of the industry. As original copies climb out of reach โ driven by collectors, speculators, and a genuine resurgence of interest in 90s gaming โ reissues serve the players who just want to play the game without taking out a second mortgage. It’s preservation with a price tag regular humans can afford.
There’s a philosophical point here too. A reissue says the game mattered enough to manufacture again โ that it wasn’t disposable content for a quarter, but something worth keeping in print. For cult classics that never got the audience they deserved the first time, a reissue is a second chance at history.
The pre-order window
As with Limited Run’s typical model, the game will be available for pre-order during a limited window, with the final print run determined by demand. That means no artificial scarcity โ but it also means if you want one, you need to order during the window. Past reissues of similar cult titles have not been restocked.
We’ll share the exact pre-order dates and pricing as soon as they’re confirmed. If this is a gap in your PS1 shelf, don’t sleep on it.
