With Sonic Frontiers only days away, it’s been easy to forget that the upcoming 3D platformer isn’t the last we’re hearing from Sonic in 2022. Having been teased for nearly two years at this point, Wildbrain and Man of Action’s Sonic Prime has been sitting in the wings, waiting for its time to shine. Until today, aside from some Green Hill-filled teaser trailers, a concept art leak, and the knowledge that the show was meant to involve the multiverse in some form or fashion, we hadn’t heard much else. Not even a release date! Today, we finally got world on the exact day Sonic’s figure-eight run will hit the small screen: December 15th. Sure, the date was leaked some time back, but hey, now it’s official. They even released a trailer for it!
Earlier today, IGN exclusively released a number of character posters, giving us our first looks at Tails, Amy, and Rouge the Bat in her redesigned outfit. How much we’ll actually see the spy dressed like that and not in some alternate universe garb, who is to say. It’s entirely possible we’ll have more cyborg Amy Rose than normal Amy Rose! As for Big the Cat…well, the imagination can run wild as to what alternate reality shenanigans we’ll see him get into.
Rounding things off, we also now know just who is playing who, at least when it comes to the main cast. While we’ve had a list of names attached to the show, since May the only confirmed role has been Deven Mack in the titular role of Sonic the Hedgehog. Two veterans of the Sonic franchise are set to take on new roles: former Knuckles voice actor Brian Drummond will be taking the villainous lead of Dr. Eggman, while Shannon Chan-Kent will be playing Amy Rose. If you don’t remember who Shannon is off hand, she features in the first Sonic film from Paramount, surviving Sonic’s wrath with a set of darts. Rounding out the cast, Ashleigh Ball will voice Miles “Tails” Prower, Adam Nurada will be Knuckles the Echidna, Kazumi Evans has been cast as Rouge the Bat, and Ian Hanlin will play the duel roles of Shadow the Hedgehog and Big the Cat. How will Ian handle so much power?!
The first eight episodes of the twenty-four episode series are set to drop December 15th. Oh wait, I said that already, didn’t I. Look. It’s December 15th. Oh right there was another teaser trailer on September 20th we never posted about. It’s fine. The new one gives us a bit more about the plot anyway.
