We’re just over a week out from the release of The Blood of Dawnwalker, and one launch update is already on the cards. After getting some heat following a demonstration of the historical horror-RPG running at certain frame rates, developer Rebel Wolves promises there’ll be more options once the game’s released to improve performance.
On Twitter, the team announced plans to add a performance mode to the game at launch, a feature that has been in the works for some time. “The Blood of Dawnwalker will receive a Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X on day one through the launch patch,” the tweet starts.
“On Friday, we answered your questions about console performance with what we knew we could confidently deliver at launch,” Rebel Wolves continues. “Performance Mode was already in the works, but it was still being tested. We simply weren’t ready to promise it yet.”

Previously, commenters really honed in on the fact that the footage shown was 30fps and 40fps, leading the company to prioritize this feature for when the game’s available to the public. “It was clear how much this mattered to many of you, so we focused on finishing the next round of tests,” the tweet reads. “Those results gave us the confidence we needed to confirm Performance Mode for Day 1.”
This is good news, because anything that allows people to modify how a game runs to their specifications is generally welcome. The settings scale is the same across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X: Performance is 60fps, Balanced targets 40fps, Quality goes for 30fps.
The PS5 then has some more “overall visual enhancements.” For an adventure of this scale, this seems like a worthwhile addition, to say the least. You can sink your teeth into it when The Blood of Dawnwalker arrives on September 3.
