Capcom sleuths find a treasure trove of cut voice lines for Resident Evil 4 and Requiem, and we were robbed of Leon Kennedy’s best quips

September 9, 2026 / admin / retro news

One of the reasons Leon Kennedy is such a great horror protagonist is that he carries himself with an unshakeable sense of humor despite always being faced with the most unimaginable atrocities. Even after barely escaping the clutches of a giant, mutant alligator with his life, Leon still manages enough levity to quip, “Chew on that, you overgrown son of a” you-know-what.

For me, Leon being an absolute himbo genuinely breaks up the tension I feel while playing a Resident Evil game, and this contrast was put to especially good use in this year’s Resident Evil Requiem, which features some of the scariest sequences I’ve ever experienced in my 30-plus years playing horror games. But as it turns out, some of Leon’s funniest lines were actually left on the chopping block, as proven by newly leaked cut voice lines from Requiem and Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Two separate videos, one that lets you hear close to 400 cut voice lines from Resident Evil Requiem, and another with more than 600 cut lines from Resident Evil 4 Remake, were recently posted to YouTube by prominent modder Keff0 (via PC Gamer). As a longtime Resident Evil diehard, it was fascinating hearing all of Leon’s bad puns, Grace Ashcroft’s panicked breathing, and even lines from less central characters like RE4’s Merchant and Requiem’s Chef Zombie, that Capcom for whatever reason decided didn’t cut the mustard. As for the Leon one-liners, I’m disappointed they were left out, because some of them sound like they could’ve been genuinely great in the right context.

“Shucks, no time for an encore.”

“Someone needs to work on their parallel parking.”

“Eight legs, no brains.”

“That again? You’re a bit of a one-trick spider.”

Naturally, longtime Leon actor Nick Apostolides delivers his lines beautifully, but I would love to see the exact scenarios onscreen that would’ve triggered them. Unfortunately we’ll probably never know, and Leon’s not the only one with some gems in the vault. I mentioned RE4’s Merchant, and he’s another that had some lines cut that I would’ve loved to see in the actual game.

“This’ll perk you up,” he says in one cut line. “Relax mate – it’s not that kind of herb.” I think all Resident Evil fans can imagine the exact situation that would’ve prompted that line, and I can understand why Capcom ultimately decided against including it, but man, what a loss.

“It’s important to stay young at ‘eart. Especially at times like these,” is another line from the Merchant I would’ve smiled at in the game.

At this point, I feel like I’m spoiling these gems for fans, so I’ll leave the rest for you to uncover on your own. There’s even a cut line from RE4 Remake that seems to reference Resident Evil Village, which is completely unnecessary but fun nonetheless.

Lies of P director says Resident Evil Requiem is one of the games he enjoyed most this year because Leon is “still as cool and tough as ever.”
