Various new games – and I mean various – have reportedly suffered countless spoilers thanks to a Steam leak that’s seen their achievements go entirely public.

From Kingdom Hearts 4 to Persona 6 to Silent Hill: Townfall to… well, you name it, there’s a downright plethora of titles seemingly affected by the massive leak on Valve’s platform.

You can find lists of every game (and their achievements, be warned) on online forums and websites like Twitter – and it’s all so big it’s nearly mind-blowing. They’re all live on achievement tracker site Exophase, too, but I’d once again caution checking anything out in too much detail.

Not only does the leak apparently expose a load of upcoming games’ achievements, but it also lifts the veil on many “unannounced” titles, as users point out in a social media thread on the whole debacle.

There’s an “unannounced Dune game” in there, an “unannounced Twin Peaks game,” and even a dang “unannounced Shrek 2 Remaster” mentioned, y’all… and, erm… Penis Bird? Put simply, it’s one heck of a leak – and not just of games we knew about.

So, how did this all happen in the first place? Well, it seems to boil down to an API error that isn’t exactly new to Steam. For anyone who might not know what that means (because I certainly didn’t), API stands for application programming interface, and it’s essentially a set of rules that allows software programs to communicate.

Exophase owner “x3sphere” has described it a bit over on ResetEra, confirming what happened.

“I am the owner of the site and this is what appears to have happened,” he writes. “Seems like a possible screw up on Valve’s end, a bunch of games with achievements that should be private are accessible through the API right now and that’s why they got scanned into the site. I usually never see games without an actual name pop up with achievements, yet over the past hour or so a bunch have.”

Oof.

Valve has yet to respond itself, but I’m not sure it will aside from remedying the apparent private information from each game. As for studios like Sega and Square Enix which have seemingly seen their unreleased games go a bit more public, I doubt we’ll hear anything, either.

So, there you have it – you can go explore the findings yourself if you’re interested it, but after taking a peek at the alleged Persona 6 achievements myself, I can say I sort of wish I hadn’t.
