After 20 years voicing Geralt, The Witcher 3 star Doug Cockle says revisiting his character for Songs of the Past is “like slipping into a warm bath”

September 2, 2026 / admin / retro news

Last week, Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 provided us with our first look at both The Witcher 3 Remastered and CD Projekt Red’s new expansion for the RPG, Songs of the Past.

The expansion marks the return of Geralt’s voice actor, Doug Cockle, who is taking on the role of the game’s silver-haired protagonist once more… a role he’s now been familiar with for over 20 years, since the original Witcher game.

How does Cockle feel stepping back into Geralt’s boots for Songs of the Past, though? Well, he tells GamesRadar+ at Gamescom 2026.

“It’s always a thrill to step back into Geralt’s shoes,” Cockle admits. “He is a character I know very, very well, so it’s always a pleasure to revisit him, and it has been for Songs of the Past as well.”

It’s comforting, too, as per the actor’s words – sort of like… taking a hot bath at the end of a tough day, apparently? “I always describe it as like slipping into a warm bath,” as Cockle puts it. “It’s just very comfortable, very easy.”

Acting is “still work,” however, as he goes on to say – “but it’s work that is very comfortable for me to to move back into, and it’s always a pleasure.” That makes sense.
After all, “I’ve been voicing Geralt since 2006, I think it is,” Cockle recalls, “so over 20 years now, and as long as CDPR keeps asking me to come back…” he will. Yes, even if he’s “like 80 years old,” he’d still be willing to voice the beloved witcher.

John Schwab, voice of Dandelion, largely feels the same. He tells GamesRadar+ that he “got more excitement stepping into the booth because I was returning to the character.”

So The Witcher RPG series is one its actors are not only comfy with at this point (and then some), but also one that they genuinely enjoy being a part of. As a fan myself, as much is made obvious by their observable talent.

Nobody was more surprised by The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past than Geralt and Dandelion’s actors: “They announced the expansion pack before we knew what we were doing.”
