Hideo Kojima has turned 63, and he’s celebrating the milestone the best way he knows how… with a very long Twitter post.

Kojima celebrated his 60th birthday three years ago by pledging that he has no plans to retire, and with the list of upcoming Hideo Kojima games comprising OD and Physint as well as a line of projects like the Death Stranding anime and A24 film adaptations he’s been keeping his word as of late. But Kojima’s 60s have also been the peak of him dropping somewhat morbid details in interviews.

PS5 exclusive Physint, for example, is being made after he had the realization that people want something like Metal Gear while he was sick during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the time since he’s spoken about having “a USB stick with all my ideas” as a kind of “will” and his desire to die in a movie theater when the time comes. Basically, dude has been getting weird with it.

And in celebration of his 63rd birthday, Kojima once again got a bit morbid on the timeline, with a Twitter post reading, “As I get older, the things I ‘have to do’ and the things I ‘want to do’ continue to increase. At the same time, the time I ‘have to do them’ continues to decrease.” He adds, “I constantly need to reassess how I use my time and how I live my life. That said, once you’ve taken something on, you can’t simply put it down and walk away.”

Kojima also notes that 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of his career in games, with 1986 being the year he joined Konami, as well as the year the first title he ever worked on, Penguin Adventure, was released. Not only that, but the end of 2025 marked the 10th anniversary of the founding of the revived Kojima Productions as an independent studio.

The Death Stranding director also reaffirms his dedication to making games, by saying, “While I continue to receive various opportunities and offers, I would like to remain focused on creating games.” So while it’s been an expectation among fans that Kojima is eager one day to move on to direct a film, it may not be as likely as some expect.

Hideo Kojima isn’t planning to blast off to space yet because he doesn’t want to rush to his “ultimate dream,” so he’ll “keep on making games” for now.
