Dragon’s Dogma 2 : Dark Arisen is out, and true to the developers words, it’s proving a lot harder than the original version of the RPG.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen’s lead dev said the friction is key to the experience, and promised that the new expansion of Capcom’s 2024 RPG has been designed to “offer battles with an even greater sense of tension and challenge than the main game.” Ahead of launch, Capcom said the new Lost Rites dungeons are to be challenged at level 20, while Forsaken Dominion – the main questline featured in the new region of Norgan – is recommended for level 40.
I started Lost Rites and Forsaken Dominion at level 80 and got absolutely decimated countless times.
And I’m glad to report it’s not just a skill issue on my part, as one glance at the Dragon’s Dogma 2 subreddit shows that Arisen all over the globe are getting battered. One post accuses returning Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen director Kento Kinoshita of being a liar, saying, “Bro said something like level 50 is a good starting point for this DLC and i went in on my lvl275 character,” adding, “Bro this shit is still hard I’m getting 4 shot by random mobs and the trailer dragon is currently fucking me up severely.”
Elsewhere on the subreddit, there are a number of meme posts and videos recounting how the snowy tundra of Norgan is beating them down mercilessly, with others sharing tales about how they hoarded relics only for a snow ogre to steal them all.
That being said, these aren’t really complaints. Everyone seems super pleased to be getting their butts kicked by Dragon’s Dogma 2 after a two-and-a-half year wait. One players says “the new DLC is everything I wanted,” praising enemies that are much smarter and harder than before. It went down a treat with reviews, too, as Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen nabbed a higher score than the first game’s DLC.
