Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night Slays Kickstarter Targets

If you loved Koji Igarashi’s entries in the Castlevania series, you’re in for a treat as his newest game has been a literal overnight success on Kickstarter. Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night hasn’t just passed its funding goal of $500,000, but smashed through all of its stretch goals up to and including the $1,250,000 tier in under 24 hours.

Bloodstained is a 2.5D adventure platformer, with the RPG and exploration aspects that have been associated with Castlevania since the PlayStation classic Symphony Of The Night. The plot follows Miriam, an orphaned girl whose skin is crystallising thanks to a dark alchemist’s curse, who must battle her way through a demon-infested castle. The game is expected for physical and digital release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.

Koji Igarashi, who was involved in the Castlevania series from 1997′s Symphony Of The Night to 2010′s Harmony Of Despair, is heading the project. Development duties are being handled by Inti Creates, which has a strong background in 2D action games thanks to its work on Shantae And The Pirate’s Curse and a variety of Mega Man titles, and music will be composed by veteran Castlevania composer Michiru Yamane.

After a few high-profile disappointments, it seems that people have regained their faith in Kickstarter gaming projects – Bloodstained joins other actual and spiritual successors that have been successfully funded such as Yooka-Laylee, Toejam & Earl: Back In The Groove and Descent: Underground. As always, we’ll keep you updated as more news comes in.
