There’s no stopping everyone’s favorite adamantium-clawed mutant now. Five years since its initial announcement, and just one month ahead of launch, Marvel’s Wolverine has gone gold, marking the last big milestone before release.
Developer Insomniac decided to mark the occasion appropriately, with a little gif of our man Logan, all suited up, taking his claws out. It’s such an eternally cool image. “Today, we’re popping claws in celebration,” reads the caption. “Marvel’s Wolverine has gone gold!”
A glorious day for any team or studio, never mind when you’re putting out one of the biggest games of the year. Wolverine is Sony’s big PlayStation 5 exclusive for autumn and winter, and timing was particularly crucial in that respect, thanks to a certain crime sandbox from Rockstar.
With GTA 6 due to arrive in November, everyone else wants to get their games out in September and October to have the most chance of grabbing people’s attention. Wolverine comes out on September 15, a healthy two months ahead of when the new Grand Theft Auto will be consuming all the airtime possible.
It may seem close to the wire for the game to go gold only a month out, but that’s fairly typical. Much of the work over the last several months will have bug fixing and other minor changes based on preview feedback and whatnot.
This marks the end of what’s been a long development cycle for Insomniac. Wolverine was announced five years ago, and a huge leak in 2023 made the process even more laborious. That’s without mentioning the release of Spider-Man 2 in 2023, pulling the company’s resources in multiple directions.
It’s a good day for the people of Insomniac, and it allows the rest of us to get fully excited for Logan’s next big video game. Time’s up, bub.
