NES Mini To Return To Shelves In 2018

You might have heard about the Nintendo Classic Mini: NES. In fact, you’d have to have been living under a rock to have missed it. The dinky plug and play console was the retro gaming hit of 2016, thanks to a great line-up of 30 classic games and build quality which has caused other manufacturers to raise their own standards. Unfortunately, demand for the console far exceeded supply – it was almost impossible to find one for the duration of the system’s brief time on the shelves, as eager gamers (and quite a few scalpers) snapped them up. As a result the system fetches prices of well over the £49.99 RRP, and knock-off clones have entered the market too.

The good news is that Nintendo has confirmed that the system will be returning to stores worldwide in 2018, with Nintendo Europe confirming that the region will get its own in the summer.

We’ll also bring the Nintendo Classic Mini: NES back to Europe next summer. More info will be shared in the future ► https://t.co/YUY2dxzI50 pic.twitter.com/RcIxPKlil7

The manufacturer also confirmed that the Nintendo Classic Mini: SNES, due for release later this month at an RRP of £69.99, would also continue to ship throughout 2018. This should hopefully alleviate the concerns of those who were unable to secure a preorder unit, who feared that scalpers would once again ruin what should be a fun throwback product. In an interview with the Financial Times, Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime has also stated that “You shouldn’t [have to] pay more than $79.99,” the North American RRP for the product.

Are you delighted because you missed out on the NES Mini the first time, or gutted because you paid over the odds for one? Let us know on the forum and by social media – we’re eager to hear your thoughts.
