It’s 2026 and everything costs a fortune. Thanks to the AI industry’s greedy appetite for memory, consoles are nowadays much more expensive than they were at launch. The Nintendo Switch 2 is no exception: when it launched last year it cost AU$699.95, but since September that RRP has increased to AU$769.95.
Not good! So when a console receives a discount it’s definitely worth drawing attention to. JB Hi-Fi is currently offering the Nintendo Switch 2 for AU$699, which is a saving of AU$70.
Yes, I realise the irony here: that discount, generous though it may be, simply discounts the Switch 2 to its launch RRP. But hey, it’s better than nothing.
The cost of gaming is increasing by the month, so this substantial discount on the standalone Nintendo Switch 2 is worth jumping at if you’re in the market. Heck, maybe it’s worth jumping at even if you’re not. Given the September price increase, getting a Switch 2 for this price will become increasingly rare. View Deal
Other retailers are also offering this discount, so if you have a Big W or Officeworks nearby, you could duck in and buy a new Switch 2 for this price.
It’s probably a smart time to buy a Switch 2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake lands on November 5, and it’s probably the most compelling reason yet to own the console. I’ve also noticed stock issues at some retailers: Amazon is currently completely out of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, for example, and JB Hi-Fi is limiting purchases to one unit per customer to prevent scalping.
Does that mean it’ll be hard to buy a Switch 2 in the coming weeks or months? It’s hard to say: Switch 2 stock was a problem at launch in the US and UK, but not so much in Australia. Still, with Black Friday and Christmas on the horizon, if stock’s gonna run out, it’s gonna run out soon.
