We’ll be back gallivanting with our favorite dragon early next year when Spyro: A Realm Beyond comes out. To celebrate the character’s anniversary this year, we’ve gotten a little tease of what’s coming.
Toys For Bob is handling the game, having previously worked on Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash 4. Since the namesake scaly mascot first arrived in the US on September 9, the studio decided that day would be a solid choice for another snippet of his upcoming return.
Sadly, there’s no new trailer yet, but we do get a better look at one of the areas, Arcadian Vale, a lush blend of old crumbling ruins, hills, and rivers. There are two pieces of concept art provided: one showing the landscape more broadly, and the other depicting a point of interest sitting on a cliff.
They tease the kind of place you’ll spend a while just hopping around, having fun, picking up gems, and taking out enemies. “Arcadian Vale captures the charm and wonder that defines Spyro’s new adventure,” reads the description.
“Made up of a calm, serene atmosphere, Arcadian Vale is a vibrant landscape filled with natural beauty,” the studio continues. “Across the scene are cascading waterfalls tumbling down from towering cliffs. Ancient stone structures and weathered monuments rise from the terrain while lush greenery blankets the valley floor, creating a destination that feels magical and alive.”
Sounds delightful, and exactly what I’m looking for from a new Spyro sequel. This is his first full new game since The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon in 2008. That’s almost 20 years ago! Hopefully this can live up to the wait – going by what we see here, I’d say so.
