The Story of the Commodore 64 in Pixels Kickstarter launches!

Following on from his highly successful series of ‘in Pixels’ books on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, Chris Wilkins, founder of Fusion Retro Books has now turned his attention to it’s playground rival; the Commodore 64.

After the success of the books I have done the ZX Spectrum, it was only right that I turned to the beige competitor and I look forward to making this well-loved 8-bit a friend again over the coming months.

Utilising the same tried and tested format, The Story of the Commodore 64 in Pixels will pay homage to the most prolific home computer in history with over 70 double page spreads of some of the greatest games to ever grace the machine along with a history of the C64.

Other special features include;

  • An article on the history of the Commodore 64
  • A feature on those games that appeared on cartridge
  • A look at the SID chip and giving recognition to the best the music the chip had to offer

Also within the books pages will be over 25 memoirs from those who worked on making the machine such a success back in its heyday.

Contributors (so far) include:

  • Archer Maclean
  • Jeroen Tel
  • Jon Hare
  • Simon Butler
  • Kevin Norman
  • Chuck Sommerville
  • David Mowbray
  • Ben Daglish
  • Matt Grey
  • Tim Follin
  • Tony Pomfret
  • Peter Tattersall
  • Philip Oliver
  • Andrew Oliver
  • Roger Kean
  • Oliver Frey
  • Chris Abbott
  • Paul Docherty
  • Boys Without Brains
  • Steve Thomson
  • David Lowe
  • and more…

There are some amazing looking perks including;

  • Unique 3D game cards by Mike Berry featuring Tapper, Hunchback 2, Wizball and Dizzy each signed by Tony Pomfret, The Oliver Twins, Jon Hare or Chris himself
  • Signed 2D game cards
  • Signed canvas prints
  • A cassette game by Trevor Story and Georg Rottensteiner
  • 7″ Vinyl records of Jeroen Tel’s new Cybernoid 2 track
  • More perks will be added as the campaign progresses
