The Witcher 4 devs aren’t announcing every milestone because they’re “very technical,” but they’re focused on “the actual making of the game till its release date”

September 2, 2026 / admin / retro news

The Witcher 4 is in production – or, more specifically, “full-scale production,” as developer CD Projekt Red put it back in 2024. The studio has offered the public only a few small, tantalizing glimpses at the upcoming RPG, but it’s passing new internal development milestones all the time. Those kinds of things are just too technical to announce to the public.

With The Witcher 4 officially targeting a 2028 release, joint CEO Michał Nowakowski was asked about where the team is at in regard to key development milestones as part of a recent investor Q&A. “As we have stated quite a few times before, we’re in the full production stage of The Witcher 4, which roughly means – in very broad strokes – that we know what kind of game we’re making,” Nowakowski says.

“Then it’s filling the game with content and so on,” he continues. “We’re not going into specific details. There’s a lot of milestones we have internally. There’s a pickup of specific batches, pickup of specific milestones. So we’re not announcing all of them because a lot of them are very technical, very internal, and actually wouldn’t really mean a lot to the external audience.”

For those of us who don’t work within the halls of CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 4 has appeared in the form of an extended cinematic trailer, an open-world tech demo, and various statements from executives and developers just like this. The devs themselves would seemingly prefer to keep their heads down and stick to actually building the game.

“This is what is happening right now: the actual making of the game till its release date,” Nowakowski says. “Every milestone is a moment for us to look at it and ponder where we are, how well we are progressing with the development. Is anything hindering us? Is there any iteration that is required? And so on.”

CD Projekt has set a high bar for itself with one of the best RPGs ever made.
