ToeJam & Earl: Back In The Groove Hits Kickstarter

toejam_and_earl_4It’s been a few weeks since we reported on the impending return of ToeJam & Earl, and now details of the new game have been revealed. ToeJam & Earl: Back In The Groove will play similarly to the first game, with additions from the second such as the Jam Out mini-game and hidden presents, and boasts a new visual style combining 2D objects with a 3D world. The aesthetic is decidedly retro, a throwback to the underground comics of the Nineties, and a variety of funky tunes are promised.

As with so many retro revivals today the game is being funded through Kickstarter, with a target of $400,000. The campaign already appears to be wearing rocket skates – in under a day, it has already received over $89,000 in pledges. The game is initially targeting PC platforms (Windows, Mac and Linux), with other platforms dependent on funding and arrangements with platform holders. Take a look at the pitch video below and let us know what you think in the comments!

If you’re unfamiliar with Funkotron’s most famous residents, we’d recommend you pick up a copy of the Retro Gamer Annual 2015 via ImagineShop.co.uk or GreatDigitalMags.com. The annual features The History Of ToeJam & Earl, in which we talk to Greg Johnson about every game in the series, as well as other great content from past issues of Retro Gamer.
