We’re all saddened to hear of the passing of David Bowie yesterday, at the age of 69. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
Quite apart from his music, David Bowie’s passing has brought to mind the oft-overlooked debut of one of gaming’s most-discussed directors. Way back in 1999, Quantic Dream’s first game was released. The Nomad Soul, known as Omikron outside of Europe, was an ambitious adventure which seemed to have everything – bits of fighting, bits of puzzle, some shooting, and Bowie himself. Yes, somehow David Cage managed to negotiate the involvement of the musician, who appeared as a renegade named Boz and contributed some music to the game’s soundtrack. It seems fitting that such a master of reinvention should be involved in such an ambitious, genre-splicing project.
