The new retro computing documentary 8-Bit Generation: The Commodore Wars is about to make its UK premiere, and it will be doing so just minutes from the Retro Gamer office at the Bournemouth International Centre on Monday 10th October. The screening is part of the BFX Festival, an event celebrating the visual effects, computer games and animation industry that runs from 8th October to 16th October.

As anyone reading this site is likely to know, the Commodore 64 was one of the major success stories of the early home computing industry. The classic 8-bit machine became the world’s best selling computer model of all time, and much of that is down to the business model of Jack Tramiel – a man who envisioned computing for the masses and fought fiercely with rival companies over price and product positioning. In 8-Bit Generation: The Commodore Wars, producer Bruno Grampa and director Tomaso Walliser explore the home computer boom and particularly Commodore’s place as an instrumental part of it. According to the Commodore Wars website, the film will feature Jack Tramiel, Steve Wozniak, Chuck Peddle, Al Alcorn and Leonard Tramiel.
