If you remember being blown away by the amazing animated footage of Dragon’s Lair back in the Eighties, you might well love this news: Don Bluth wants to make an animated Dragon’s Lair movie, and he’s brought the project to Kickstarter. The goal is to raise $550,000 to produce a short feature which can be pitched to studios and investors in order to get a full feature produced. Given that the original game was more of a spectacle than an interactive experience to begin with, fans of the original are unlikely to mind the shift from games to movies.
If you’re not familiar with Dragon’s Lair, the game took Laserdisc to the forefront of the arcade business thanks to its incredible animation that far surpassed the capabilities of computer graphics. While the laserdisc phenomenon was largely confined to the Eighties, home consoles continued the interactive movie trend it set throughout the Nineties thanks to FMV games from the likes of Digital Pictures.
