World of Warcraft: Forever is here in beta form, and the true WoW experience is intact, right down to the infinite queues and disconnects as players start banging on the door to get in. Even the devs seem a bit taken aback by the number of players lining up to participate, but they promise eager fans that everybody will be in soon.

“Thank you to everyone waiting to get into the WoW: Forever Beta,” the official Warcraft account begins. “We’re working through some final issues, and we expect the doors to open soon. Thank you for your patience!”

“Yeah, ok that’s a bit excessive for a beta,” senior game producer Tom Ellis adds in a separate post. “Calm down now… give us a minute, this environment is taking a beating and we’re scaling various services up.”

“Wow, the number of people hammering at the door of the Beta is… insane,” associate production director Clayton Stone says in another tweet. “Thanks for showing up, everyone! We’re scaling up and up and up (and up). You will all be in soon.”

You can probably guess at the state of WoW discussion forums right now, and the WoW subreddit is predictably filled with memes about the queue times, early reactions from those lucky enough to get in, and big ol’ threads for people to commiserate while they wait. And yes, everyone has already made the joke about it taking “forever” to get in.

World of Warcraft: Forever’s controversial Skyborne race came from Blizzard veteran Chris Metzen himself – “We knew we wanted to add some sort of elves.”
