What Is Resident Evil Battle Coliseum?

If you’re a long-time fan of Resident Evil, you’ll be familiar with the tortured saga that was the development of the second game. After a lot of work had already been done (it’s suggested that the game was 60-80% complete), Resident Evil 2 was scrapped and restarted – retaining the police station setting and Leon S Kennedy, but ditching elements such as protective clothing, female protagonist Elza Walker and most of the existing graphical work. While the game that we ultimately received was a classic, the scrapped version of Resident Evil 2 has always been a source of fascination for fans.

Some time ago, a prototype of that original version was found and Team IGAS and Loboto 3 have been hard at work restoring the game into a more complete and enjoyable experience for fans. Now, their first tech demo has been released, showcasing the new Battle Coliseum mini game – a Resident Evil 4 style over-the-shoulder experience showing both teams’ work in fixing up enemies and weapons from the scrapped game. A future demo is expected to show off the game’s story elements.

If you’re interested in trying the Battle Coliseum demo, you can download the ISO image here – you’ll need a modded PlayStation or an emulator to run it.
